 1) Mahmud Schihab ad-Din, irakischer Schriftsteller, * Bagdad 11. 12. 1802, ✝ ebenda 20. 10. 1854; wurde als Dichter, Verfasser von Reisebeschreibungen und als Rechtsgelehrter bekannt; hinterließ einen bedeutenden Korankommentar (9 Bände, 1883-92).
 
 2) Mahmud Schukri, irakischer Schriftsteller und Historiker, * Al-Karkh 14. 5. 1857, ✝ Bagdad 8. 5. 1924; verfasste zahlreiche historische und biographische Werke sowie Untersuchungen zur arabischen Sprache. Besonders bekannt wurde er als Begründer einer Reformbewegung in Irak, die den Islam von Häresien und Missbräuchen reinigen sollte.
